05.
Last night, I met up with some old friends planning on just having a dinner with them, and then heading off into our own different directions for the rest of the night. Three hours of wonderful conversation later, we decided to stick together last minute and take on the night. This may seem not so out of the ordinary, but it brought me to my next lesson…
Lesson 05.
Live a little spontaneously, it’s okay to go off schedule.
I always felt like I was always living in this planning-waiting-planning cycle. I was planning so much for what was to come next - whether it be my next assignment due or the next event that was set up, etc etc. I understand that life brings its stresses, and I’m not going to act like I live in this fairytale world where you can be totally carefree and have zero responsibilities. Let’s face it, if you’re going to be successful in this life, you’re going to have to work hard, working hard brings its stresses, but learning how to handle them is what’s important. This is where my lesson comes in..
Breaking the routine, doing something outside of your comfort zone, and going a little crazy is allowed. Hell, I even think it should be mandatory…in moderation of course. Doing something that doesn’t have any stresses attached to it, that’s when you feel the most alive. I really feel it’s at these times where you can really connect to other people the best, and connect with yourself too. I really think that doing things that are spontaneous helps ground us as people. It makes us realize how precious life really is and the people around us are…
This life we’re all living is so fast paced that sometimes we forget to actually step back and take it all in. So, I challenge you…do something that you didn’t plan on. Go out with a group of people that you’re just getting to know, take a spontaneous trip to the closest city with your friends, or just simply put down your iPhone/Blackberry/Android and connect with the people you’re with rather than those behind a screen. Life is too short to miss out on what it has to offer. Remember you have the control of what you get out of it.
Carpe diem.
